I know. How much can one talk about mixing bowls? But seriously, mixing bowls are a very important staple in the pastry kitchen. They come in various sizes and are used just about for everything in the kitchen!

From food prep to food storage, mixing bowls have even earned their own separate storage shelves in the workplace.

When  using buttercream to decorate a cake , you will find yourself using multiple bowls to accommodate the many different  colors of buttercream icing you'll be using.

Pink & yellow  for the flowers, or green buttercream for the leaves and stems. That's three bowls, right there.

Having extra bowls on hand during cake decorating is very convenient. Who has time to keep washing one bowl
over and over again?

If you're using several different buttercream colors, you'll need several bowls to accommodate each color. If you're needing several ingredients in your recipe, you still need several bowls.
I'd like to introduce you to a few brands for you  to consider if you're looking  into purchase a new set for the first time, or just replacing your old ones.

Why purchase from this list when you can go to your local department store, like Walmart?  I get it, I shop there, too. But,
I'm not a fan of those cheap plastic bowls. After a few months of dealing with that stain and warping out of shape, I can't take it anymore I need new bowls.

This is all you need to make Italian Buttercream.
I promise you, you will not find mixing bowl sets  like these in any of the brick n mortar retail shops. You'll also be surprised at the value you'll find once you start shopping around with your fingertips.
With the money you'd spend constantly replacing cheap dollar store bowls, you could have invested that same money on just one good set.  For me, I need a bowl that is durable and is going to last way beyond the three to six months you get out of those cheap plastics. If you're out there cooking real food, then you may want to consider  that buying a good mixing bowl is a good investment.

So, Let's Begin!

Stainless Steel Bowls

Stainless steel bowls, made with commercial grade metal  can be used as both food preparation bowls, baking and mixing bowls and serving bowls. These metal bowls won’t stain or absorb odors and resist rust for years of durability.

These bowls are made of premium stainless steel that resists scratches and bumps for a shiny finish that lasts and lasts. Sure to outlast all of the rigorous production work required of them

Unlike wood and plastic, stainless steel does not absorb bacteria or smells ensuring food tastes fresh and crisp every time. The bowls are refrigerator and freezer safe; ideal for prepping meats or preparing salads for later. Wash the bowls easily in the dishwasher or wash them by hand.

The Perfect Storage Bowl Set
Good old Pyrex quality is the first thing I have to say about these bowls.  These Pyrex bowls have become household staples for many and for many years.  They have become the number one request on bridal registries. Mainly, because they are the same good quality that they've always been.
Set includes a purple, yellow, blue & red plastic cover.
Sizes are:
 1-qt
 1.5-qt
 2.5-qt
 4-qt

Pyrex glass bowls are non-porous, so they won't absorb food odors, food flavors or even those unsightly food stains you see in plastic bowls. These bowls are
 not clear bowls.

Their color is slightly clear
with a ribbed design and an antique glass look. They have a pretty  green glass hue, when looking from an angle

There should be no problem identifying what’s in them without opening the lid. The colorful lids are tight fitting, and will allow you to stack the bowls on top of one another in the refrigerator, if needed.
Pyrex 8-piece Glass Mixing Bowl Set with Lids
I use mine for making salads, potato salad or a large pasta salad. I even use mine to cook rice in the microwave! Pyrex glass bowls are very durable. They have this heavy ‘Pyrex’ thickness to them.

They also nest to conserve space in your cabinet.
You can use these bowls for mixing, serving and storage. The largest bowl is the one I find myself using the most. There's no substitute for Pyrex, the original glass bake ware.

Plastic Bowls
I’m not totally against using plastic. I’m all for using safe plastic. We know that plastics are not made from natural materials, like stainless steel and glass.
The process of making plastics may began with natural materials, but by the time you get to the completed product, chemicals have been added. And some of these added chemicals have been identified to wreak havoc on our health.

Without going through a whole study on plastics and their effects, I suggest that you do some research on plastics to come to your own conclusion. These bowls I represent today, however, are made of BPA-free polypropylene plastic.  They are not for use in microwave. But hot liquids in a mixing bowl is fine.
Plastic bowls  are not cookware,  but they are your best food prep  tools. Even though some of  the pieces say they are dishwasher-safe,  they are very east
 to hand wash.

My brand new Kitchenaid mixing bowl, which I washed first, turned my banana bread batter into streaks of dark gray. I threw it all out. Seriously, thanks for all these awesomeness. I am so happy to see your post.
