Marshmallow treats are a beloved, no-bake cookie bar made from crisp rice cereal , like the Kellogg's Rice Krispies brand. And marshmallows.
Theses deliious treats are made with just only three ingredients, marshmallow treats are really easy to make. All you need is melted butter, melted marshmallows and of course a crispy rice cereal. |
|
Although, Rice Krispies are used traditionally used in creating these treats, you can use any favorite cereal that you love. Fruity Pebbles are a good substitute.
I must warn you, this version will be too sweet. |

Preparing Your Pans
To make this layered crispy cake, I used one 10" square cake pan, and Fat Daddio's 3-Piece Celebration Set. This includes a 3x2, 5x2 and 7x2 inch cake pans.
Whenever you're making these treats, you'll need to generously grease your molds. You can use butter, shortening, or the convenient cooking spray. |
To make it easy to unmold the treats out of the pans, line the pans with plastic wrap. Then spray over the plastic wrap prior to molding. |
Press the mixture down into the mold with greased hands. It's even easier to do with gloved hands that have been greased.
Work quickly, as it will get stiffer to work with as it cools down. The mixture will be set once it cools. |
No you can see how easy it is to release the mold. This marshmallow treat recipe can be molded into any shape. Use what ever mold you have to create your marshmallow treat cake.
Just follow the same method of preparation. The plastic wrap, in addition to the pan spray, will be very convenient to use in this project. |
The Royal IcingDon't forget! You're going to need some royal icing. The royal icing is your 'glue' you'll need to put all of the pieces together. All you need is just a dab of it to glue your pieces together. Once the icing dries, this cake will not fall apart. |
Use the open star tip. That way, you can also finish the edges of your cake with the royal icing. Once dried, the shelled edges will be like candy. |

Let's Decorate !If the Marshmallow Treat Cake is the star of the show, then the fondant must be its supporting character. Fondant is a sugar paste, who's pliability is similar to Playdough brand's clay.
That means you can shape fondant into anything you want. Using a gel food coloring, it is very easy to add coloring to your fondant. Go ahead and play with the rainbow of colors. |
Wilton has the cutest fondant molds available on that come in all kinds of shapes and themes. Such as ferns, sea life, jewelry, jungle animals. You can base a complete cake design from just one theme. Here, I'm using their birthday party theme. For more ideas, check out Collette Peter's , "Collette's Birthday Cakes".
